Many people have been killed in a string of attacks, including car bombings, across Iraq. Sunday's killings have reportedly brought the death toll from violence this month in Iraq to over 250.

Buddhist temples targeted in Bangladesh
A rare outbreak of anti-Buddhist rioting in Bangladesh has left at least four temples and dozens of homes gutted by fire. Muslims had taken to the streets to protest against an internet photo they said defamed Islam.

Kenyan police say a blast in a Nairobi church has killed a child and wounded six others. The attack comes after Kenyan forces helped evict Islamist Shebab fighters from their last bastion in neighboring Somalia.

Gunmen shake up close-run pre-election in Venezuela
Gunmen in Venezuela have shot dead two local campaigners for the opposition challenger Henrique Capriles, who has narrowed the poll gap on veteran president Hugo Chavez ahead of next weekend's election.

Günter Grass takes aim at Israel once again
German author Günter Grass, who drew fire from Israelis in April over a poem in which he said Israel threatened world peace, has published a new volume of poetry critical of the Jewish state.
Economy
Steinbrück attacks Merkel's euro-crisis management
Chancellor Angela Merkel's election rival, Peer Steinbrück, has attacked the government's handling of the eurozone debt crisis. Steinbrück said Germany needed to give Greece more time to implement economic reforms.
