POTUS 3.0

To secure landmark objectives and assure his final two years aren't a token, the president must in effect run all out for a third term in 2014, using the bully pulpit and the firepower of his political organization, and keeping the heat—and blame—on obstructionist Republicans. The Daily Beast's Robert Shrum reports.

CRINGEWORTHY

The Bushes have been hacked! A cybercriminal going by the super-cool alias Guccifer has somehow accessed the email accounts of George H.W. Bush and family members, sparking a federal investigation after he posted the personal correspondence and photos online. The emails—some of which detail Bush Sr.'s health conditions—include home addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses for several Bushes. But perhaps most concerning for the famous family members are the photos—including one of the 88-year-old in the hospital and others Bush sent to his sister of paintings he was working on, in particular self-portraits of the former president in the shower and bathtub. A spokesman for Bush told the Houston Chronicle, "We don't comment on matters under criminal investigation."

EXCLUSIVE

When a bombing knocked out top Assad officials, Western intelligence agencies scrambled to find those left holding the deadly stash. Their tools: Facebook, Skype, Twitter, and more. A congressional staffer close to the plan debriefs The Daily Beast's Eli Lake.

ON THE LOOSE

Christopher Jordan Dorner "could be anywhere at this point," California authorities said early Friday morning, and the former Los Angeles police officer, accused of killing three, people is likely armed and dangerous. After expanding their search for the wanted cop turned accused killer from the Mexico border through Nevada on Thursday night, police had finally located Dorner's burned truck 80 miles east of L.A. on a snowy mountain—but the search didn't end there. Hours of combing the area yielded nothing, and early Friday morning, officials conceded that Dormer remains at large.

SNOWPOCALYPSE NOW

Northeasterners are stocking up on food and water as they prepare to be slammed with up to three feet of snow Friday. The potentially record-breaking storm is slated to move in on New York City, Boston, and other parts of New England on Friday morning, with the heaviest snowfall expected at night and into Saturday. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is ready with plows and 250,000 tons of salt on standby for the 10 to 12 inches the city could receive, and coastal areas still dealing with the ramifications of Hurricane Sandy are bracing for yet another power outage. Meanwhile, schools in Boston; Providence, Rhode Island; Hartford, Connecticut; and elsewhere in New England called off school Friday, and 2,600 flights were canceled through Saturday in preparation for the snow.
