THE CHASE

The recent death of one of the few remaining—and most repugnant—Nazis has brought Nazi hunters back into the news. However, there is a problem: the hunt, like its quarry, is mostly over. British historian Guy Walters on the boring reality of searching for dying WWII perpetrators.

BLOODSHED

Egypt's interim vice president, the Nobel laureate Mohamed ElBaradei, resigned from his post following violent clashes with protesters supporting ousted President Mohamed Morsi, saying there was a peaceful solution. The White House has condemned the violence, telling the military government that "the world is watching." Earlier today, security forces stormed camps of protesters loyal to Morsi, killing at least 149 people. At least one journalist has been killed,  and several others injured—such as The Daily Beast's Mike Giglio, who wrote about his experience here.

FATAL

A UPS cargo plane en route from Louisville, Kentucky, crashed in Alabama early Wednesday morning, killing the pilot and co-pilot. It's unclear how many other people were on board the aircraft. At least two explosions went off after the crash. The crash occurred just outside the fence of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, as the plane approached for landing.

The great New York Times outage of 2013 is over. No one knows exactly why it went down, but the Gray Lady is back online after a two-hour crash. Speculation that it was the result of a cyberattack appears to be unfounded, with the Times saying, via Twitter, that the issue seemed to be internal. News of the outage (which leads to a page with the text Http/1.1 Service Unavailable) quickly spread on Twitter, with many speculating whether the source could be traced to a hack attack—or whether it had anything to do with the 10th anniversary of the massive Northeast blackout of 2003. "This would be a good time to be a print subscriber to the paper," quipped a Times reporter, who noted that people in the newsroom waited calmly as presumably frantic tech people tried to fix the problem.

Quinn Attacks Weiner in Mayoral Debate

During Tuesday night's New York City democratic mayoral debate, Anthony Weiner chided City Council Speaker Christine Quinn for not apologizing for her mistakes, but Quinn was having none of it. 'I think it's very clear to all New Yorkers that neither me nor anybody else... should be lectured by Anthony Weiner about what we need to apologize for tonight, or ever,' she said.
