BAD TRIP
The popular ridesharing app has faced criticism over price gouging, but the service's biggest problem may be drivers who sexually harass riders. Olivia Nuzzi reports on passengers who claim they've been harassed—and she shares an unsettling experience of her own.
COME TOGETHER
With as many as 100,000 Russian troops massing along the southern and eastern borders of Ukraine, the country's interior minister is calling upon members of a nationalist militia that helped overthrow Viktor Yanukovych to guard against Putin's forces. Arsen Avakov tells Jamie Kirchick exclusively that revolutionaries must accept that the internal battle is over and focus on their common enemy.
NOT COOL
A Bridgegate report commissioned by Chris Christie includes gratuitous details about the personal life of former deputy chief of staff Bridget Anne Kelly. The revelation of Kelly's previous affair with Christie's former campaign manager seems to be character assassination meant to discredit critics of New Jersey's governor, Olivia Nuzzi writes.
STEPPING IN

In response to Republican Governor Rick Snyder saying Michigan won't recognize same-sex weddings that took place following a court order striking down the state's marriage law, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said Friday the federal government will step in. "I have determined that the same-sex marriages performed last Saturday in Michigan will be recognized by the federal government.  These families will be eligible for all relevant federal benefits on the same terms as other same-sex marriages," he said in a statement. He also noted that while Snyder himself has recognized that the marriages are legal, the rights and benefits from the state are pending legal proceedings. Holder was unequivocal in his statement, declaring that "Last June's decision by the Supreme Court in United States v. Windsor was a victory for equal protection under the law and a historic step toward equality for all American families … we will remain steadfast in our commitment to realizing our country's founding ideals of equality, opportunity, and justice for all."

BUSTED

Six people were arrested Wednesday night for an LAX Airport baggage theft ring, in which thousands of items were stolen in one of the biggest property heists in airport history. Up to 25 people are suspected to have taken part in a scheme over multiple months in which workers stole expensive items out of bags. "Basically everything of value—be it electronics, jewelry and items that could be stolen in seconds, would be removed from bags," LAX Police Chief Pat Gannon said. Many of the items ended up being sold on Craigslist. Gannon also said that there was a 37 percent increase in thefts in 2013.
