New tracers can identify coal ash contamination in water Posted: 16 Dec 2014 09:38 AM PST Laboratory and field tests confirm that new boron and strontium tracers can detect the distinctive isotopic and geochemical fingerprints of coal ash contamination in water. The tracers will allow the US Environmental Protection Agency and other regulators to distinguish coal ash contamination from other, similar contamination coming from different sources in a watershed, and trace the coal ash to its source. |
