Vol. 12 No. 128 - ISSN: 1533-3698 September 27, 2011

Dear People:

Are you working more, enjoying it less, and dreading the time you spend most days at your work place? Regardless of the reason, whether you have a bad boss who injures your self-esteem or a passion to pursue a dream, it may be time to look at options. A dear friend, who was a mother of three and on welfare, went on to become a respected, highly paid motivational speaker. Another friend left HR to work in university career services and write websites and books. My family practice doctor is leaving her practice because she has always wanted to work in dermatology, and if not now - when? I started my adult life as a high school teacher, but dreamed of wider impact. Almost everyone I know who loves their work had to change course and pursue options. You deserve work you love.

5 Critical Factors in Layoffs

No one wants to be blindsided by an unexpected layoff. Employers do employees a kindness when they communicate about problems in the business as soon as they see sales weakening or government grants expiring. No matter the factors that may eventually require layoffs, employees - both the employees laid off and the employees you keep - fare better with early warning about problems. Here are five more critical factors.
