Ron Paul's still around -- And he still hates the Federal Reserve. Michael Bastasch reports for The Daily Caller News Foundation:
"In a House Financial Services Committee hearing on Wednesday, Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul ripped into the Federal Reserve System, calling the central bank a 'fallacy' and a 'flawed system.' 'I think they have a job that they can’t do, because it’s an unmanageable job and it’s a fallacy, it’s a flawed system, and therefore we shouldn’t expect good results,' Paul told Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke." | 2.) The Batman kickback? -- You heard of the Cornhusker kickback, but what about the Batman kickback? TheDC's Alex Pappas reports:
"Not everyone is as thrilled as Democratic Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy about his cameo in the upcoming Batman movie. 'In terms of being another example of the way Washington works and how senators trade their office for their private amusement and enjoyment, it’s a good example,' said Tom Fitton of the conservative government watchdog group Judicial Watch. Leahy, an admitted longtime Batman fan, has an on-screen speaking role in 'The Dark Knight Rises,' which is slated for release this weekend."
What is the (possible) kick? You'll have to read the article to find out. | 3.) SNAP if this is insane -- In the latest installment of "you have to be kidding me" news, TheDC's Caroline May reports on how the Mexican government is helping to advertise American food stamps:
"The Mexican government has been working with the United States Department of Agriculture to increase participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food stamps. USDA has an agreement with Mexico to promote American food assistance programs, including food stamps, among Mexican Americans, Mexican nationals and migrant communities in America. 'USDA and the government of Mexico have entered into a partnership to help educate eligible Mexican nationals living in the United States about available nutrition assistance,' the USDA explains in a brief paragraph on their 'Reaching Low-Income Hispanics With Nutrition Assistance' web page. 'Mexico will help disseminate this information through its embassy and network of approximately 50 consular offices.'"
Uhhhh, how does this make any sense? | 4.) Adam Carolla vs. President Obama -- Funny man Adam Carolla didn't take too kindly to President Obama's suggestion that successful business people ought to thank the government for their achievements. TheDC's Jeff Poor reports:
"It is an anti-American — and again I don’t mean that in a terrorist sort kind of way, but this country is sort of built on pull yourself up, start your shit, stake your claim, do your thing, innovation,' he said. 'The folks that made it, so-called made, and again I don’t know why we’re obsessed with success, but the folks that have made it had help along the way — not necessarily true in many instances. Yes, you can count being delivered at a hospital that running water, electricity and you can count roads that worked."
