Minister targets anti-Islam caricatures after riots
The Interior Minister of Germany's western state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has ordered a ban on far-right groups displaying Mohammed caricatures which provoked riots in Bonn on Saturday. The courts seem opposed.

Clinton urges India to do without Iranian oil
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called on India to reduce it's reliance on Iranian oil imports. She also took the opportunity to say that the US believed al Qaeda leaders were hiding out in Pakistan.

Gunmen shoot CEO of Italian nuclear engineering firm
Unidentified gunmen have shot the CEO of Ansaldo Nuclear, an Italian nuclear engineering firm, reviving fears of politically-motivated violence amid the country's shrinking economy and biting austerity.

Some Syrians vote in controversial election
Syrians were invited to cast ballots in parliamentary elections on Monday. The vote has been billed as part of the country's reform process by President Assad's government, but opposition forces have boycotted it.

Putin completes controversial return to Russian presidency
At a ceremony in Moscow, Vladimir Putin has taken the oath of office of the Russian President and returns to the position he held for eight years before a four-year hiatus as prime minister.

Election observers critical of Armenia poll
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said on Monday that democratic failings undermined what was an otherwise peaceful election that featured an open campaign.
