Be Careful What You Wish for: Congressional Scrutiny of For-Profit Universities May Bring Focus on ROI of All of Higher Education

The old saying is that you must be careful what you wish for. That is certainly holding true today, as the "Empire" (traditional higher ed) has prodded Congress to take a careful look at the activities of for-profit colleges and universities (who, by the way, are growing by leaps and bounds at a time while the "old guard" are struggling against economics, budgets, and demographics). Now, the microscope is being turned back on the traditional world of higher education - as all struggle to find new ways of measuring value and how good - or how poor - all colleges and universities are performing.

One thing is for certain, whoever can come up with an answer to finding the "third way" - new metrics for new times - to determine the value of college and university education will be a consultant in unbelievable demand - while doing a great service for students, parents, institutions, and yes, taxpayers. Start drawing out those equations and running data today! Of course, anyone who wants to call me to do this, hey, I am a doctor with tuitions to pay....
