From Susan M. Heathfield, your Guide to Human Resources

Vol. 12 No. 56 - ISSN: 1533-3698 April 30, 2011

Dear People:

Do you put the salary for the job in your job postings, either your online job postings or in other venues?

Employers argue that not supplying the salary range gives them more flexibility in considering a wide range of candidates, especially in cases where they may have some flexibility. Some also believe that the first party to supply a number in a salary negotiation is in the weaker negotiating postion. Job applicants argue that they don't want to waste their time applying for jobs that pay outside of the salary range which they require. See what I think. Vote for what you think about supplying salary information in job postings. Share your thoughts.

Please forward this newsletter, in its entirety, to your colleagues, coworkers and friends, because you want to add value to their work and lives.

Regards and wishing you and yours the best this weekend,

Susan

Take Your Coworker to Work Day: Implement Employee Ideas

You can implement employee ideas to assure employee engagement. Here's a good example. Take Your Child to Work Day has become a tradition on the fourth Thursday in April in some workplaces. But, at the TechSmith Corporation in Okemos MI, the concept has morphed into an opportunity for internal on-the-job training, and a new form of job shadowing.

How to Tackle Annoying Employee Habits and Issues

Have you ever worked along side an employee who had poor personal hygiene, foul smelling clothes or breath, or an annoying personal habit like making clicking noises? Or worse, the employee drinks heavily in the evening and then exudes the smell of alcohol, often mixed with the equally fetid smell of coffee and cigarettes, all day at work? It may be time to hold a difficult conversation.
