EU Wins 2012 Nobel Peace Prize Well, the thought is nice. The European Union was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, despite the coalition's current financial woes. The Nobel committee, which praises the institution for changing Europe "from a continent of wars to a continent of peace," seems to have awarded the prize as a morale booster: the committee chairman revealed that the decision was a reminder of what the world would lose "if the Union is allowed to collapse." Panetta Warns of Cyberattack Looks like we have more to worry about on the Internet than the latest cat videos. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta warned Thursday of the possibility of a "cyber-Pearl Harbor" as a consequence of increasingly vulnerable cybersecurity measures in the United States. Among the institutions on which he claims foreign hackers could wreak havoc are the nation's power grid, transportation systems, financial networks, and even the government itself. But don't worry. Pakistan Has Day of Prayer Pakistan called for a day of prayer on Friday in honor of 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai, who is still fighting for her life after being shot in the head by the Taliban earlier this week. Yousafzai was transferred to an intensive-care unit at a military hospital in Rawalpindi, and doctors say her progress over the next few days is “critical.” The Taliban targeted Yousafzai for “promoting secularism” for her work advocating for better schooling and girls’ rights. On Tuesday, two armed men stopped a van packed with about a dozen schoolgirls and asked them which one was Yousafzai. When she identified herself, he fired three shots, hitting her in the head and injuring two others.
