Lebanon's president has declined to accept the prime minister's resignation following Friday's bombing in Beirut. The attack killed several people, including a senior security official and led to mass street protests.

Brahimi calls for Syria religious holiday ceasefire
The UN and Arab League envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi has met Syria's foreign minister in Damascus. Brahimi pressed his call for a ceasefire between government forces and rebels during an upcoming religious holiday.

Israel seizes pro-Palestinian ship off Gaza
Israeli marines have seized a Finnish-flagged schooner as it tried to enter Gaza coastal waters. The Estelle was carrying 20 pro-Palestinian activists, including European parliamentarians, and humanitarian aid.
Libya
High-ranking official says Libya not fully liberated
A year after Moammar Gadhafi's death, a leading Libyan politician has said that the country still has not been fully liberated. Meanwhile, the Gadhafi regime's former spokesman has been captured southeast of Tripoli.
Elections
West Bank elections open for first time in six years
Ballot booths have opened across the West Bank as Palestinians vote for the first time since 2006. The Gaza-based Islamist movement, Hamas, has boycotted the communal election.
Conflict
UN plans to sanction DR Congo rebels
The UN Security Council has announced plans to sanction M23 rebel leaders in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It extended the warning to those who support the movement, in an implicit threat to Rwanda and Uganda.
Biodiversity
Funding deal at biodiversity conference leaves shortfall
Poor countries are to get a doubling of annual funding to slow species extinction by fostering national parks and sustainable land usage. The deal was reached at a UN biodiversity conference in India.

Luxembourg's heir ties the knot in royal wedding
Royalty from around the world flocked to one of Europe's smallest countries on Saturday as Luxembourg's heir-to-the-throne tied the knot. This was Luxembourg's biggest royal event in years.
