U.S. Aide Killed by Afghan Policewoman One U.S. civilian aide was killed at police headquarters in Kabul on Monday by a woman wearing an Afghan police uniform. The same day, at least five local police were killed by another officer in a separate attack in northern Afghanistan. The two incidents are just the latest rogue insider attacks by Afghan security forces against their own colleagues or foreign personnel. In fact, Afghans in police or army uniforms have killed more than 50 members of the NATO initiative in the country. But Monday's shooting in Kabul was the first carried out by a woman. The suspected shooter has been detained and is believed to have Taliban ties. Read it at BBC MONICA 3. How Newsweek Got the Lewinsky Scoop It was the story of a lifetime—and he couldn't publish it. In Newsweek's final print issue, former staff reporter Michael Isikoff gives the inside tale of how he uncovered President Clinton's affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky in early 1998. Isikoff had been talking to Linda Tripp—a confidante of Lewinsky's—for months, and a source tipped him off that Tripp was cooperating with a Justice Department investigation. Isikoff and his Newsweek bosses got hold of some juicy tapes, but they just didn't have enough time to do the reporting legwork before the weekly deadline—and the website Drudge Report ran with it days later. "I would have preferred we had it first," Isikoff writes. "But we settled for having it better than anybody else." Read it at The Daily Beast OLD FRIENDS 4. Russia, India Sign Billion-Dollar Arms Deal All they want for Christmas is billions of dollars worth of weapons. Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, that is. Putin celebrated Russia's newly-invigorated alliance with it's old-Cold War buddy Monday as officials from both countries signed billion-dollar weapons deals that include contracts for the delivery of 71 Mil Mi-17 military helicopters and an agreement to build 42 Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets in India with Russian components. "We agreed to further strengthen the traditions of close cooperation in the military and technical areas," said Putin. Read it at Associated Press GET OUT 5. Petition to Deport Piers Morgan Hits 31,400 The gun-loving people of America have had just about enough of Piers Morgan and his snobby British ways and want him out of this country. Who does he think he is, advocating for gun control in a country that's not his own and calling gun advocates—like the one who appeared on his CNN show last week—"unbelievably stupid"? More than 31,400 people have signed a petition to have the English TV personality deported back to the motherland—it only needs 25,000 signatures to demand a response from the White House. Morgan finds the petition humorous, urging his haters to "bring it on" and tweeting, "If I do get deported from America wanting fewer gun murders, are there any other countries that will have me?"
