Obama: Solidarity After CT Shooting President Obama urged solidarity with the grieving families in his weekly radio address on Saturday morning—but he stopped short of criticizing the nation's gun laws. In a more subdued speech than the one he gave Friday, when he tearfully referred to the victims as "our children," the president requested Americans to remind the town's families "that we are praying for them." The decision to stay quiet on gun control is not universal, with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg roundly criticizing the White House and Washington for not taking up the issue in the wake of the shooting. At least 27 people, including 20 children, were shot and killed by Adam Lanza at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., on Friday, before Lanza turned the gun on himself. NRA Cancels Country-Music Event Is a certain pro-gun group, on the receiving end of tremendous backlash after a massacre at a Connecticut elementary school Friday morning, going into hiding? The National Rifle Association canceled a planned "Tweet & Greet" with country musician Colt Ford that was scheduled for this afternoon. "Apologies for the inconvenience, but the @ColtFord Tweet & Greet will be rescheduled. Please check back for more info!" a announcement said. The event is part of a series that features country artists "involved in causes that defend our values," according to the NRA. Egypt Votes on New Constitution Weeks after a proposed new constitutional draft resulted in violence across the country, Egypt's electorate heads to voting stations on Saturday to determine the fate of the country. Erring on the side of caution, the government has sent soldiers and police to guard most polling places to prevent more rioting. The referendum, which is backed by Islamists and opposed by secular and Christian factions, would grant President Morsi "sweeping powers" and will be up for a vote this Saturday and next.
