CIA Tortured Terror Suspect Khaled el-Masri was tortured by the CIA, the European Court of Human Rights determined Thursday, in a landmark judgment. The ruling was unanimous: el-Masri, a German citizen, was wrongly detained, sodomized, shackled, and beaten in front of Macedonian state police. Macedonia was also found guilty of secretly imprisoning, torturing and abusing el-Masri, who was suspected of terrorist affiliations. The court's decision was the first time the CIA's treatment of terror suspects has been deemed as torture. Read it at The Guardian SPECIAL PROTECTION 4. Prank DJs Moved to Safehouse Staff at the Australian radio station behind the royal hoax gone wrong said Thursday that they are being moved into a safe house and protected by bodyguards after receiving death threats. Meanwhile, the body of Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse who allegedly killed herself after being fooled by DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian's impersonation of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles, is being released to undertakers after the coroner issued a report on the suicide earlier on Thursday. Weekly Jobless Claims Tumble The job market is recovering from its post-Sandy problems. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported first time unemployment claims fell sharply last week to 343,000, from 372,000 in the prior week. That low level is consistent with decent hiring, and marks a sharp fall from Sandy-inflated figures in November.
