Ravens And 49ers Continue Trend Of Super Bowl Teams Built On Homegrown Talent

In an era with strict salary caps, it has become more important for teams to be successful at building their team through the draft. And the 49ers and Ravens are no exception to that rule.

The folks at FootballPerspective.com took a look at the production of homegrown players in the starting lineups for every team that has played in a Super Bowl. For the 49ers, 75% of their production came from homegrown players. That number is 73% for the Ravens.

Those numbers are typical for recent Super Bowl winners. However, it wasn't that long ago that there was a stretch of nine straight Super Bowl winners that were less than 70% homegrown, including the 1997 Broncos who were just 50% homegrown...
