Warren Mourns Son's Suicide After news that Pastor Rick Warren's son had committed suicide, the popular evangelical pastor spoke out Sunday, asking his congregation to pray for his family as they cope with the loss. "He had a brilliant intellect and a gift for sensing who was most in pain or most uncomfortable in a room," Warren said. Matthew, 27, had long been plagued with suicidal thoughts and severe depression. In an email to his congregation, Warren said he and his wife had shared a "fun Friday evening" with their son before he allegedly decided to take his own life in a "momentary wave of despair." Kerry Honors Diplomat Killed On Sunday, Secretary of State John Kerry delivered a moving eulogy to honor the first American diplomat to be killed on duty since the Sept. 11 Benghazi attacks. 25-year-old Anne Smedinghoff, a U.S. Foreign Service Worker in Afghanistan, was killed in an explosion Saturday on her way to donate books to a school in Qalat. "We know too well the risks in the world today for all of our State Department personnel at home and around the world," said Kerry. Three American soldiers and another American civilian were also killed in the incident—the deadliest Afghan attack on Americans to date. Michigan Upsets Syracuse In a surprise upset that left Orange-wearers everywhere feeling blue, Michigan State pulled out a 61-56 win over Syracuse in the NCAA Final Four Saturday night. In an op-ed for the Detroit Free Press Sunday morning, author and Detroit-native Mitch Albom expressed his utter shock and unadulterated joy at Michigan's victory—a team that hasn't even been to a Final Four in 20 years. "If you told me this was the future when they tipped it up in November, I'd have told you there's a reason we just say no to drugs," Albom quipped. Michigan will now go on to face Louisville—who beat Wichita State Saturday night—in the final game of the March Madness tournament on Monday night.
