Tsarnaev on Two Terrorist Watch Lists Tamerlan Tsarnaev was on not only the FBI's terrorist watch list, but also the CIA's—and both agencies were acting on tips from Russian authorities, U.S. officials said Wednesday. Six months after the FBI cleared Tamerlan in 2011, Russian authorities reached out to the CIA to request that it investigate him as well. The CIA's conclusion looked much like the FBI's: no suspicious information and no ties to extremists. As a precaution, the CIA asked the National Counterterrorism Center to add Tsarnaev's name to the database, which contains about 700,000 names. The FBI added him to its list as well, alerting the State Department and Homeland Security to the threat. Despite the dual investigations, U.S. officials say they uncovered no signs of terrorist activity. Read it at The New York Times DETAILS 3. Toy Remote Set Off Boston Bombs A remote usually used to control toy cars was employed to detonate the two bombs that exploded during the Boston Marathon, a congressional panel was told Wednesday. Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said this piece of evidence supported statements made by Dzhokhar Tsarnaev that he and his brother learned how to build the bomb from the magazine Inspire, which was created by late Yemeni cleric Anwar al-Awlaki. U.S. officials also said Wednesday that Dzhokhar did not appear to have any weapons on him when he was captured last week while holed up in a boat in Watertown, Massachusetts. Read it at Reuters ACCIDENT 4. Two Fuel Barges Explode in Alabama Three people are injured Wednesday night after two fuel barges exploded on the Mobile River in Alabama. The barges were filled with natural gas and exploded not far from where a Carnival cruise ship was docked. Three people by the barges were taken home with burn injuries, and a one-mile safety radius has been set up around the barges.
