Mandela's Health Overshadows Obama's Senegal Trip As President Obama heads to Senegal for a trip focused on the African country's move toward democracy, his agenda is overshadowed by Nelson Mandela's worsening health. Almost immediately after Obama landed on the continent, South African President Jacob Zuma canceled a trip to Mozambique in order to stay nearby his country's beloved civil rights leader. Obama plans to make his way to South Africa to meet with Zuma and other leaders on Friday. Mandela, the 94-year-old apartheid revolutionary and former South African president, is in critical condition following a lung infection three weeks ago. According to local news reports, over the past 48 hours Mandela's condition has "gone down," but granddaughter Ndileka told reporters outside the Pretoria hospital that his condition remains stable. Texts Lead to Murder Charge for NFL Player Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was charged, Wednesday, for the murder of his friend Odin Lloyd, and it could be his alleged victim's final text messages that ultimately incriminated him. At 3:07 a.m. on June 17, Lloyd texted his sister, "Did you see who I was with?" When she asked, "Who?" He replied, "NFL. Just so you know." Just 16 minutes after sending that first text, Lloyd was shot to death because, according to prosecutors, he was talking to people Hernandez had problems with at the nightclub where they'd been partying. They blame Hernandez for orchestrating the "execution-style shooting." A judge denied Hernandez's lawyer's plea for the 23-year-old football player—who was cut from his team merely hours after his arrest—to be released on bail, handing him one murder charge and five weapons charges that have the potential to land him in prison for life without parole. Read it at ABC News LET'S GET ALONG 5. Kerry Reviving Israel-Palestine Peace Talks John Kerry is back in the Middle East and he's not leaving until there's peace. Well, at least he's going to try. The U.S. secretary of State will meet with leaders in Jordan, Palestine, and Israel over the next few days in hopes of reviving peace talks between the latter two. Kerry's already encountered one setback, however, as his arrival in Jordan coincided with the news that Israel had just approved construction of 69 more housing units on an East Jerusalem settlement. "Obviously steps like this are unhelpful, but we remain hopeful that both parties will recognize the opportunity and the necessity to go back to the table," said the State Department.
