HELL NO, HE WON'T GO

GOOD FOR HER

KEEP IT UP

The White House just isn't willing to quit spying yet. The Obama administration is putting pressure on Congress not to curb the National Security Agency's controversial spying program during a vote Wednesday, saying that the legislation will cause the program to "hastily dismantle." The spying became public thanks to Edward Snowden last month, and Republican Rep. Justin Amash has put forward an amendment to block funding of NSA's collection of personal data if "that data does not pertain to a person under investigation." NSA chief Gen. Keith Alexander spent Tuesday lobbying Congress, holding closed-door sessions with Democrats and Republicans to persuade them to vote against the legislation.

DEADLY

Twenty armed gang members and two police officers were killed Tuesday after a shootout in Mexico's western Michoacán state. Another 15 people were injured, officials said. The shootout began after the gang members from the Knights Templar drug cartel blocked roads and bridges and ambushed the police patrols and ambulances. Tuesday's violence came just one day after five people were shot and killed by Knights Templar gangsters in a demonstration protesting their violent tactics. The cartel controls much of the methamphetamine and marijuana trade in western Mexico and are war with the Zetas cartel, whose leader, Miguel Angel Treviño Morales, was arrested earlier this month.

CRAZYTOWN

Guns in bars. What could go wrong? The Republican-led North Carolina state legislature has just passed a measure widening the state's concealed-weapons-carry laws to include the right for permit holders to bring guns into restaurants and bars as long as owners are OK with it. Other places guns will be allowed? Locked cars on public-school property and playgrounds. It now awaits Republican Gov. Pat McCrory's signature. The state legislature has been home to weekly protests called "Moral Mondays" where progressives have fought against what they see as the governing body's extreme agenda that has included education cuts, institution of voter-ID laws, and restrictions to abortion.

'Blurred Lines' Gender Reversal

Some people are outraged over an alleged objectification of women in Robin Thicke's racy music video, but would it still be offensive if the men and women switched roles? Here, Seattle-based boylesque troupe Mod Carousel does just that.
