College Is Still Relatively Cheap It's back-to-college time, which means it's the season for moaning about rising tuition costs. In a mini campaign swing, President Obama is touting more free money for students and a federal ranking of colleges that would be tied to financial aid allotment. Boehner Backs Obama on Syria Syria, here we come. House Speaker John Boehner said he supports the president's call for action in Syria. Boehner also said that his colleagues should stand with Obama too. And that's exactly what Sen. Harry Reid and Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor did. Reid said that he was confident there are enough votes to pass the resolution in the Senate. On Tuesday Obama met with Republican and Democratic leaders in search of the congressional thumbs-up to launch a limited military strike in Syria. Nyad: No More Ocean Swimming Diana Nyad, the 64-year-old endurance athlete who is the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage, said she won't be swimming long distances in seawater anymore. "I am through with the ocean," Nyad said on Tuesday. Instead, she will complete her long-distance swims in a portable pool so she doesn't have to deal with the waves and the jellyfish. Nyad will first take the pool to New York where she will swim 48 hours to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Then she'll go to Boston and Moore, Oklahoma, to help those affected by the marathon bombing and a massive tornado. Read it at Reuters HOT PROPERTY 4. London Building Melts Cars The owners of a 37-story skyscraper known as the Walkie Talkie building in London are investigating how a beam of light reflecting off the structure is so strong that it's melting cars. Officials, who have blocked off three parking spaces near the building, have said the ray depends on the position of the sun and will last about two hours a day at this time of year. Land Securities and Canary Wharf Group said they believe the light will last for two or three more weeks and are working on a long-term solution for the problem. Meanwhile, a local paper, which has reported that the building has also set a carpet on fire, used the light beam to fry an egg in a demonstration that had what looks like delicious results.
