TROUBLED TEEN

The straight-A student and Stanford graduate who lost his cool or the drunk-driving (allegedly), filthy mouthed teenager whose rap sheet grows by the day? Dean Obeidallah writes race plays a bigger factor in how Americans discuss public figures like Richard Sherman and Justin Bieber than we care to admit.

TALKING BACK

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid hit back at Robert Gates, saying the ex-defense secretary violated his trust by publishing their confidential conversations in his new memoir. "Obviously he did this to make money," Reid tells John L. Smith. And Reid wants Gates to know Irritable Bowl Syndrome is no laughing matter.

REALLY, DUDE?

In a speech at the RNC Thursday, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee said Democrats want women to think "they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government." Ben Jacobs reports on the potential presidential candidate's controversial remarks.

GOODFELLAS

New arrests have been made from the famed 1978 mob heist from a Lufthansa cargo building at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Several alleged members of organized crime have been taken into custody, for everything from armored truck heists, murder, extortion, and bookmaking. The Lufthansa robbery, which inspired a key plotline in Goodfellas, saw robbers steal about $5 million in cash and nearly $1 million in jewels—the largest robbery in U.S. history at the time. Only one person was ever convicted in the heist, a cargo agent who was described as the inside man.

THAT'S AWKWARD

The Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, which was tasked with reviewing the NSA's surveillance program, has declared the program illegal. "The… bulk telephone records program lacks a viable legal foundation," the report said, and that it threatens civil liberties and has "only limited value." The Board also recommended that the government end the program.
