The G7, formerly known as the G8, is meeting in the Netherlands on Monday to work out how to punish Russia for the annexation of Ukraine's Crimea. The emergency summit was called by President Obama in the hopes of continuing steps against the Putin regime, including a potential permanent expulsion of Russia from the G8. The country was admitted in 1998, joining Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain, and the U.S. Obama also addressed the U.S. commitment to NATO, telling a Dutch newspaper, "No one should ever question the commitment of the United States to the security of Europe."
