Google just bought itself some major bragging rights. The company purchased drone maker Titan Aerospace on Monday, which will potentially help it take the lead in the Internet battle to claim air space and set up online capacities in the most remote parts of the world. Facebook was known to be eyeing Titan, but an insider said Google agreed to top any offer from the Zuckerberg juggernaut. Facebook ultimately agreed to pay $20 million for Ascenta, a U.K.-based company that, like Titan, makes solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicles. The basis for using drones to extend Internet capacity globally is promising, but not yet fully proven. Still, both Google and Facebook seem willing to take gambles to battle it out for their corners of the sky.
