Obama Can't Win on Immigration While he may have been surrounded by smiling, newly naturalized citizens at a ceremony in South Korea on Friday, President Obama is facing fire on immigration from all sides back in the U.S. On the right, reports Caitlin Dickson, 22 GOP senators have signed a letter to the president expressing "grave concerns" about changes to immigration enforcement. Meanwhile, on the left, the president is still taking heat for the massive number of deportations that have taken place during his time in office. Read it at The Daily Beast Warning 2. Kerry: Russia Making 'Grave' Mistake Russia got a stern talking-to by Secretary of State John Kerry on Thursday afternoon. Kerry bluntly called out Russia for violating the Geneva agreement to de-escalate the situation in Ukraine, and threatened that if Russia continues, it would be a "grave" and "expensive mistake," leaving the U.S. with no choice but to impose sanctions. "You can't resolve a crisis when only one side is willing to do what is necessary to prevent a confrontation," he said. America's New Red Line for China In Tokyo on Thursday, President Obama issued yet another red line, promising Japan that its sovereignty would be protected in the disputed Senkaku Islands. It is unlikely the declaration helped Japanese citizens sleep any better, however, says Michael Auslin. After Syria and Crimea, Obama's tough talk seems unlikely to worry Beijing. Read it at The Daily Beast CRAPPY 4. Oregon to Switch to Federal Exchange It turns out there are things more glitchy than the federal government's health-care website. An Oregon panel recommended Thursday that the state abandon its state-run exchange in favor of the federal government's HealthCare.gov. According to Greg Van Pelt, an advisor for Governor John Kitzhaber, "the website is only partially functioning." Other states, including Hawaii, Maryland, and Massachusetts, have had notable technical issues which have made online enrollment difficult. The board of the Oregon exchange is expected to approve the panel's recommended switch on Friday. In a sign of just how much opinion has changed regarding the federal website, Governor Kitzhabor said, "I think their recommendation to use the federal website technology is the right call. It is the most reliable and least costly way to ensure that we have a working website for the next enrollment period." Oregon received $305 million in federal grants to construct its exchange.
