Cheat Sheet - The Mythologizing of Jay Z

Read This, Skip That ....

SELF-MADE JERK
While we're all wondering what caused Solange Knowles to attack Jay Z in an elevator last week, the real question we should be asking is why did we ever put the rapper on a pedestal? Marlow Stern recounts how America has seemed to have collectively forgotten the worst parts of Jay Z's past, from his stingy charity work to the time he stabbed a man. He may be a rap god, but he is no saint.
#FAIL
Donald Sterling only made things worse with his interview on Anderson Cooper 360 on Monday night. Nina Strochlic writes that during the course of the show, the Clippers owner claimed he was baited by V. Stiviano, accused Cooper of being a racist, and slammed Magic Johnson for having AIDS. Oh, and he still believes everyone loves him.
CRAZY TALK

Karl Rove has made some bombastic statements about Democrats, but his latest may be the worst. The New York Post reported Monday that "Bush's Brain" implied Hillary Clinton may have suffered serious brain damage. Speaking at a conference last week, Rove said voters should press Clinton about her December 2012 medical emergency, which was officially diagnosed a blood clot. Rove said: "Thirty days in the hospital? And when she reappears, she's wearing glasses that are only for people who have traumatic brain injury? We need to know what's up with that."

HAPPIER PAST
Gerald and Lois Neher arrived in Chibok, Nigeria, from Kansas in 1954 to build a space where girls could get an education. Michael Daly spoke to the couple, now in their eighties, about the more peaceful times in Chibok before it became a target for Boko Haram. Lois, who taught the town's first female students, recalls how grateful they were to be in school. "They would thank you over and over because they were so anxious to learn. Any way to get education is what they wanted."
killer elections

Less than a week after losing to former American Idol Clay Aiken in a close North Carolina primary election for Congress, 71-year-old businessman Keith Crisco died in a fall at his home in Asheboro on Monday. The race to take on incumbent GOP Rep. Renee Ellmers had been deemed too close to call initially, but Aiken was ahead of Crisco by around 369 votes. Prior to his death, Crisco had been expected to concede to Aiken on Tuesday.
