The lawyer, Steven A. Lerman, also represented Rodney King, who was beaten by the LAPD in the 1990s. The family of Ezell Ford says he was mentally ill. The police claim Ford tackled an officer and went for his gun. The officer's partner then shot Ford, while the first officer also shot Ford with a backup weapon. "They could have used a Taser, they could have wrestled him to the ground, they did not have to shoot right away," the lawyer said. Witnesses say they did not see Ford put up a struggle.
