Judge Decriminalizes Polygamy in Utah A federal judge has struck down part of Utah's ban on polygamy, effectively decriminalizing it in the state. U.S. District Court Judge Clark Waddoups ruled Wednesday that the law's phrase "or cohabits with another person" was deemed a violation of the free exercise clause of the First Amendment and the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The case was brought by Kody Brown and his four wives, stars of the TLC reality show Sister Wives. In a lawsuit, the Browns claimed the state law forced them to flee Utah over fears of persecution. Russians Hacked Wall St. After Sanctions Russians hacked J.P. Morgan Chase and at least one other bank in mid-August immediately after the U.S. levied new sanctions on Moscow, according to an FBI probe. The attack resulted in the theft of gigabytes' worth of sensitive data and may be linked to similar recent infiltrations of European banks. People familiar with the case say the FBI suspects the attack was retaliation for the sanctions. Experts say the hackers' ability to move through sophisticated security suggests these were not average criminals—but the hackers left enough of a trail to also suggest the Russian government wasn't involved. USC Football Player Lied About Heroic Injury The University of Southern California has suspended cornerback Josh Shaw after the newly elected team captain admitted he made up a story about injuring himself by saving his nephew from drowning. The school said the suspension will last indefinitely. "We are extremely disappointed in Josh," said USC Coach Steve Sarkisian in a statement. "He let us all down." Shaw claimed that he hurt his ankles by jumping from the second-floor balcony of an apartment to save his nephew from drowning in a pool Saturday night. While the story quickly earned national attention, the media began questioning the account. Police later revealed that Shaw's name appeared in a report from an incident at a downtown apartment that same night.
