Walmart Cuts Health Insurance for 30,000 Walmart will cut health insurance coverage for employees who work fewer than 30 hours a week. Starting January 1, these 30,000 part-time workers will be left without health benefits. The move by the nation's largest private employer follows similar cuts made by Home Depot and Target to curtail the rising costs of paying for insurance. "We have to make some decisions," said Sally Wellborn, Walmart's senior vice president of benefits. Walmart, which has 1.4 million full- and part-time employees, previously announced that 1.2 million workers and their families had enrolled in their health care plan. The amount far exceeded what the company expected. Walmart will also be raising premiums for all of its full-time workers. Read it at AP WATCH OUT 3. NFL May Create Panel to Handle Arrests The NFL is considering creating a panel of outside experts to determine penalties for players who have been arrested for crimes, but are still awaiting trial, according to memo sent by Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday. "What is the process for placing someone on paid leave status? Should these decisions be made by a third party, or a panel of outsiders, or should they be made by the commissioner?" Goodell writes. The memo was sent in advance of an owners' meeting to be held Wednesday. It brings up concerns about when a player should be placed on leave and whether he should be paid or unpaid. The Orthodox Sex Abuse Crackdown That Wasn't Kenneth Thompson was elected as Brooklyn district attorney last year with high hopes that he'd crackdown on ultra-Orthodox sex abuse. But Thompson has hardly rectified his predecessor's perceived weakness in prosecuting sex abuse in the religious community, reports Emily Shire. Thompson has handed out sweetheart plea deals both to sex offenders and those who assault victim advocates.
