Cheat Sheet - ‘American Psycho’ Murders Hit Hong Kong

Read This, Skip That ....

MR. BATEMAN
Rurik Jutting walked out of his job at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Hong Kong and left this chilling automatic email response: "For urgent enquiries, or indeed any enquiries, please contact someone who is not an insane psychopath." Days later, two dead women were discovered in his $5,000-a-month apartment—with one stuffed in a suitcase. Nico Hines and Tom Sykes on the high-flying trader with a murder rap.
NOT SAFE

Joran van der Sloot was stabbed twice by fellow inmates in a maximum-security prison in Peru, his lawyer said Monday. Van der Sloot is serving a 28-year sentence in Peru's Challapalca prison for killing Stephany Flores in his hotel room in 2010. He has long been suspected in the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005 but was never formally charged. According to van der Sloot's lawyer, Máximo Altez, prisoners believe Challapalca will be shut down if a high-profile murder is committed. Leidy Figueroa, who van der Sloot married after meeting her in prison, has a bloody shirt of his as apparent evidence of the stabbings.

ENEMY WIN

U.S.-backed rebels in Syria defected en masse to al Qaeda on Sunday, inflicting a major blow to the Obama administration's strategy against ISIS. Moderate rebels that had been trained by the U.S. either surrendered or defected to the Jabhat al-Nusra group, which is affiliated with al Qaeda. Others fled for the Turkish border. The rebels also lost control of their main northern strongholds in Syria, as well as significant quantities of weapons. The loss crushed the Obama administration's hope to easily secure supportive Syrian forces in its fight against ISIS.

Down in Louisiana, what happens when Mary Landrieu gently suggests that maybe race has a little something to do with Barack Obama's unpopularity in her state? She gets hammered for it. Michael Tomasky argues against the absurdity of this election season, and how Landrieu's situation offers insight to how the GOP is likely to win big on Tuesday.

Taylor Swift pulled all of her albums from Spotify on Monday, after previously refusing to let her latest, 1989, hit the music-streaming site. Spotify is openly trying to win back Swift. "We love Taylor Swift, and our more than 40 million users love her even more," the company said in a statement. "We hope she'll change her mind and join us in building a new music economy that works for everyone." Swift has not yet commented on her decision, but she has criticized the pervasiveness of free music. "It's my opinion that music should not be free, and my prediction is that individual artists and their labels will someday decide what an album's price point is... I hope they don't underestimate themselves or undervalue their art," she wrote in The Wall Street Journal earlier this year. Spotify says it pays 70 percent of its revenue "back to the music community."
