Cheat Sheet - How ISIS Keeps Dodging U.S. Spies

Read This, Skip That ....

HIDE AND SEEK

ISIS leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi's announcement that he survived a U.S. airstrike is a reminder of just how hard it is to take out members of the militant group. Shane Harris and Noah Shachtman report on the U.S.'s difficulties in identifying targets because Baghdadi and his followers have improved their encrypted communications and a crucial lack of intelligence operatives on the ground.

STRANGER THAN FICTION

In the hit new film Nightcrawler, Jake Gyllenhaal's character rides the line between reporting and crime. Justin Glawe reports on a Chicago photographer working in the same territory. Known only as Spot News to his followers on Twitter and Instagram, his work captures the violence plaguing the city, and sometimes angers the friends and family of the victims he finds.

MOVING ON

When President Obama was asked Friday about the bills in both houses of Congress pushing for approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, he said his stance has not changed, and that the ongoing evaluation should continue. "Understand what this project is: It is providing the ability of Canada to pump their oil, send it through our land, down to the Gulf, where it will be sold everywhere else. It doesn't have an impact on U.S. gas prices," he said. He also disputed that it was the "massive jobs bill" Republicans claim it is.

DEVIL YOU KNOW

The Western world may think Putin is a bad guy, but Putin is far from the worst the country has to offer. Anna Nemtsova reports from Russia on how part of Putin's popularity comes from the belief that the person who follows him will be much, much worse.

NOT WELCOME

Under new powers outlined by British Prime Minister David Cameron, British jihadis who have traveled abroad to fight will not be allowed to return unless they agree to strict controls. The new powers also would give officials the ability to stop potential jihadis from leaving the U.K. Cameron announced the new rules while in Australia for the G20 summit. The proposed new powers are part of a Counter-Terrorism Bill the leader hopes will become law by the end of January.
