The company was restructuring its sales and marketing department and needed a sales manager. The candidate was having a hard time seeing where his position fit in the hierarchy. He wanted to move up from his former job, but was not sure this position was an actual move up. I was not sure that it was for him, either, but I was positive that if he came onboard and offered the value his references said he would, he'd shortly expand his role and his authority.
