Today's advice comes from Time Inc. CEO Laura Lang's interview with AdAge: "Let's learn from each other, let's listen, let's set a direction and then all follow it in a very clear way." Lang recently took over the top spot at the publisher behind big-name magazines including Time, Sports Illustrated, and Fortune after she was plucked away from her leadership position at Digitas, the ad agency. Without a publishing background, Lang says her outside opinions and experience will be an asset. It'll help her innovate and bring new ideas to the forefront. And when it comes to the industry-related stuff, she looks forward to learning the business and perfecting her strategies. But, she says, she can't do it alone. The thing she says she's most proud of at Digitas is the team she was able to put together and retain -- "one of the best teams of people in the industry," she told AdAge. And she'll rely on her ability to strengthen and connect with staffers at Time to help her execute in publishing. "What's most important is how to set a vision and how to really move forward and take the right risk and bring everyone together." Want your business advice featured in Instant MBA?
