Murdoch's tweet that the press is "Jewish owned" is downright dumb and offensive. Peter Beinart on the remarkable amount of idiocy and nastiness stuffed into 140 characters. Plus, see more of Murdoch's offensive tweets.
WORST TO COME?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of a possible "expansion" as his country's assault on Gaza entered its fifth day Sunday. Israeli bombers continued to hit targets in Gaza, broadening the scope of their strikes to include government buildings. A rocket fired by Hamas militants and aimed at Tel Aviv was intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome defense system Sunday, not long before Netanyahu held a weekly meeting with his cabinet. "Reservist and conscript soldiers are ready for any order they may receive," the prime minister told officials.

Republicans aren't giving up the Latino vote that easily. After years of resistance, some members of the party are now saying that they'll explore a path to citizenship for about 11 million people in the United States illegally. President Obama has said that he has spoken with members of Congress on the issue and plans to introduce a bill "very soon" after the beginning of his second term. "For too long, both parties have used immigration as a political wedge issue," said Republican Florida Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart. "But the time has come to find a bipartisan solution."
RECOVERY
Three weeks later, Hurricane Sandy is still taking its toll. New York City has said that it will have to bulldoze about 200 homes damaged by the storm in Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. The buildings were judged to be a danger to the public and other nearby structures. About 500 more damaged sites are still being inspected by the buildings department. "We've never had this scale before," said Robert L. LiMandri, buildings department commissioner.
