Here's your watchdog media, America -- The Democrats' War on Women, part XXXII -- Close, but not close enough -- Rubio's rebound -- Tweet of Yesterday -- Today in North Korean News | 1.) Here's your watchdog media, America -- The press was furious about the lack of access it had to President Obama during his golf weekend in Florida, so you can imagine how they pounced when they finally got an opportunity to question the president. TheDC's Jamie Weinstein reports:
"After a Golf weekend in Florida avoiding the press, President Barack Obama returned to the White House Monday night, where he faced screaming reporters trying to hold him accountable by asking, in unison, 'Did you beat Tiger?' According to the White House pool report, Obama returned to the White House at 8:10 p.m. on Marine One. As he exited the helicopter on the South Lawn and made his way towards the South Portico, a group of reporters demanded to know whether the president vanquished golfing legend Tiger Woods, his Sunday golf companion."
That the reporters awaiting the president asked the same question in unison suggests they had to collaborate to come up with that stunner. | 2.) The Democrats' War on Women, part XXXII -- TheDC's Patrick Howley reports:
"Democratic Colorado state Rep. Joe Salazar apologized Monday for suggesting some women are so unjustifiably afraid of being raped that they are liable to start shooting wildly. Salazar, arguing in favor of disarming college students, said Friday on the Colorado House floor that women fearing rape may suddenly and haphazardly 'pop a round at somebody.'"
Quick, get by a television. The media is surely going to blow this up and make it a major scandal for the Democrats any moment now. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting... | 3.) Close, but not close enough -- A couple Republican senators are taking the lead to legalize hemp. TheDC's Vince Coglianese reports:
"Kentucky Sens. Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul have announced that they will co-sponsor legislation that would allow American farmers to grow hemp legally. Hemp is a non-drug variety of the cannabis plant — the marijuana plant — used for a range of consumer products, including rope, fabric, paper, soap and food. The bill would remove low-drug content hemp from federal classification as a Schedule I controlled substance. The Republican pair is joined by 'Oregon Democratic Sens. Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden in introducing legislation to allow American farmers to cultivate and profit from industrial hemp,' according to a statement from McConnell’s office."
Why not go all the way and push to legalize the drug variety of the cannabis plant, also known as pot, weed, marijuana, etc. It is not only nonsensical to send people to jail for possessing pot, it's immoral. If the GOP would wise up and take the lead on this issue, they could potentially make inroads with the youth vote. | 4.) Rubio's rebound -- Marco Rubio didn't allow his water sip gaffe during his response to President Obama's State of the Union to get him down. He countered the faux pas quite effectively, opines media messaging expert Emily Zanotti:
"He may have been trying to parlay his turn at giving the State Of The Union response into the start of a presidential campaign, but Marco Rubio chalked up an accomplishment last Tuesday night that few Republican politicians — or activists, for that matter — can lay claim to: creating, and embracing, a moment in culture. After he took that dastardly, ostensibly 'career-killing' sip of water on air, you could almost smell the avalanche of media coverage as it slowly wound its way across the landscape. They were honing in on a public foible like Kardashians to a camera. But instead of crying foul and whining to a friendly outlet about the persistent victimization of conservatives, Rubio and his staff saw an opportunity to inject themselves seamlessly into the cultural conversation. Within hours, they had responded with creative tweets, morning talk show appearances and a branded water bottle campaign that netted $100,000 for his super PAC. And despite the 200 separate thirst-for-power puns churned out by MSNBC, Rubio’s chances at stardom were not lost. In fact, if anything, his sense of humor came across as a deliberate attempt at humanization, and a step in the right direction."
