How long can Bob keep his job? -- Things just keep getting worse for Sen. Bob Menendez. Conchita Sarnoff and David Martosko report for TheDC:
"A professional escort who travels the East Coast seeing clients in cities from Miami to Boston has identified a photo of Senator Bob Menendez as a man who paid her for sex. The woman, in her late 30s, told The Daily Caller prior to seeing Menendez’s photo that she had been paid to provide sexual favors to several U.S. senators, including a New Jersey Democrat and other politicians who are no longer living. The escort, who earns money having sex with men in upscale hotel rooms, said during an in-person interview that many of her wealthy and powerful customers use pseudonyms when arranging for her services, and when meeting her in person."
This isn't good. You might even say it's bad. Really bad. | 2.) Food stamps ... for dogs -- Dogs gotta eat. TheDC's Caroline May reports:
"The number of people in America on Food Stamps remains at an all-time high, and now a new program is allowing Fido, Garfield and their peers to get in on the goods. While the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal program administered by the states, Pet Food Stamps is a New York-based nonprofit that helps pet owners who can’t afford to support their animal friends."
The good news is Americans love dogs, perhaps more than they love people --- your DC Morning facilitator, for instance, suspects his parents are more fond of their dogs than they are of him. | 3.) Who's the most conservative senator? -- It depends on what stupid ranking you consult, The Daily Caller News Foundation's Jim Antle reports:
"It’s official: Idaho Republican Sen. James Risch was the most conservative member of the U.S. Senate in 2012. That is, unless you ask the American Conservative Union, which considered seven senators more conservative. The recently released ideological ratings of members of Congress may be more of an art than a science, but they will still have implications for elected officials who seek to prove their liberal or conservative credentials as they climb the political ladder."
According to TheDC's Morning's rankings, Ted Kennedy ranks as the most conservative --- and he's not only known as the liberal lion of the Senate, but he's also been out of the Senate since he died in 2009. Lesson? Garbage in, garbage out. Ratings are worthless, unless they confirm what you want to believe. In that case, they're indispensable. | 4.) A presidential fairytale -- President Obama and his team are trying to spread a fib, TheDC's Gregg Re reports:
"President Barack Obama and former White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew repeatedly lied last year by claiming congressional Republicans were responsible for the looming $85 billion cut in the federal budget through sequestration, according to The Washington Post editor Bob Woodward. Based on interviews with two senior White House aides who were directly involved in budget planning, Woodward’s report notes that Obama personally approved Lew’s plan to propose the mandatory trigger to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in July 2011. A majority of Republicans ultimately voted for the Budget Control Act, which included the sequester."
Suddenly, Bob Woodward has become the right's best friend. | | 5.)
