The annual freak show goes a way toward validating the "lamestream media's" view of a Republican Party at war with itself, writes The Daily Beast's Michael Moynihan. Plus, Caitlin Dickson on the NRA's presence at CPAC, Ben Jacobs on Rand Paul's straw poll victory, and more coverage of CPAC.

THIS IS THE LIFE

I love when you call me big papa. The freshly minted Pope Francis stood in a window above St. Peter's Square to give his first Angelus pray Sunday. Tens of thousands looked on, cheering the new Pontiff like he was a rock star. Earlier in the day, Francis made an impromptu appearance at a side door of the Vatican, then made his way a parish inside the Vatican grounds. As he walked through a narrow passage, he reached across barriers and into the crowd, shaking hands and even laughing. People chanted "Francesco! Francesco!" They really like this guy. And if that wasn't enough, he even sent his first tweet as @Pontifex: "Dear friends, I thank you from my heart and I ask you to continue to pray for me. Pope Francis." No humblebrags here.

Tragic

A bus carrying the Seton Hill University women's lacrosse team crashed at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, killing the driver, and at least one other and injuring 24. Officials said one of the dead was the driver, and the other is reportedly the team coach, who was pregnant. All other passengers were sent to area hospitals as a precaution, with three of the most severely injured being flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment. No cause for the crash, which resulted from the bus veering off a turnpike and hitting a tree, has yet been found. The team was on its way to an afternoon game.

DESPERATE TIMES

After making a controversial decision, postponing the government debate on it probably won't help matters. Cyprus's government delayed a Parliamentary debate on Sunday, one day after announcing a tax of up to 10 percent on bank deposits. Cyprus's president said the country faces collapse of its banks without the bailout, but investors already began withdrawing their savings on Sunday. Cyprus's 10 billion euro bailout deal, reached by the EU and the IMF, calls for a onetime tax of nearly 10 percent on people with more than 100,000 euros in their account, while those with less than 100,000 euros will pay 6.8 percent.
