NO, CONSPIRACY THEORISTS

The Diana conspiracy theorists have struck again, and this time Scotland Yard is investigating. Despite mountains of evidence to prove her death was an accident, some fantasists can't let it go, says The Daily Beast's Tina Brown.

COUP

A lawyer for Hosni Mubarak said on Monday that an Egyptian court has ordered the release of the deposed president, who has been jailed since his ouster in 2011. There has been no official confirmation from the military-backed government, and authorities could find other reasons to keep him in jail. It's unclear how Egyptians will react to Mubarak's release, especially as the news comes after six days of protests by supporters of President Mohamed Morsi, who was replaced by a military government on July 3. Mubarak, 85, has been charged with ordering police to fire on protesters in the 2011 coup, and he is tied to alleged corruption as well.

DISCUSSIONS

President Obama will discuss the implementation of the Dodd-Frank reform bill with financial regulators at the White House on Monday—which comes as the president has been debating who will replace Ben Bernanke as head of the new Federal Reserve. Monday's meeting comes just over three years after the signing of Dodd-Frank and amid a report by CNBC that just 39 percent of the 400 new industry rules have been implemented. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said last month that the fully implemented 4,200-page bill will be a top priority for the White House. Meanwhile, Washington has been abuzz with rumors about who will replace Bernanke as the head of the Fed. Obama has indicated he is considering former Treasury secretary Lawrence Summers while congressional Democrats back Fed vice chair Janet Yellen.

BLADE RUNNER

South African Olympic champion Oscar Pistorius was formally indicted on murder charges in a Pretoria courtroom on Monday—what would have been girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp's 30th birthday. Pistorius, a double-amputee running champion, shot and killed Steenkamp in February, after he says he mistook her for an intruder, but prosecutors have alleged that it was premeditated. Ballistic tests leaked this weekend seemed to back up Pistorius's claim that he did not put his prosthetic legs on before the shooting, and the defense expected to claim he felt vulnerable and his actions were "reasonable for a person with a disability." Another leaked report this weekend showed Steenkamp was allegedly crouched behind the bathroom door at the time of the shooting, perhaps hiding. Before appearing in court on Monday, Pistorius and his family prayed at length, and Pistorius weeped during the indictment.
