CRACKDOWN

The African country practically outlawed homosexuality last week and wasted no time in persecuting gays. Dozens were arrested Tuesday for being in same-sex relationships, a crime that carries a penalty of 14 years in jail. The Daily Beast's Jonathan Krohn reports on the terror of LGBT activists, and their commitment to fight back.

THE BOSS

What is the head of Fox News hiding? From a childhood with a father who whipped him to his belief Sarah Palin is "an idiot," a new biography reveals the life and times of the Republican strategist turned cable television mogul. The Daily Beast's Lloyd Grove picks the juiciest bits.

DOWN THERE

Darwinists and Creationists should study the man born without a certain something on his backside. If God is such an intelligent designer, why would He put the stuff of waste removal so close to the stuff of reproduction and pleasure? The Daily Beast's Kent Sepkowitz investigates.

Mega Bite

Internet service providers were given the OK Tuesday to favor some types of Web traffic over others thanks to a court ruling by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. The court struck down the Federal Communications Commission's "net neutrality" rules that prohibited ISPs from blocking certain types of Web traffic. The 81-page 2-1 ruling effectively negates years' worth of the FCC's work. Companies like Time Warner would be free to cut a deal with Netflix, for instance, to favor its traffic over Hulu's. The case is likely to be appealed to the Supreme Court.

BREAKING

A U.S. judge Tuesday rejected the $760 million settlement between the National Football League and thousands of former players who claim they suffered head injuries, saying the money might not be enough to pay as many as 20,000 who could be eligible. Up to $5 million was available for each player depending on their diagnosis under the deal reached last August. "Even if only 10 percent of… eventually receive a qualifying diagnosis, it is difficult to see how the monetary award fund would have the funds available over its lifespan to pay all claimants at these significant award levels," District Judge Anita Brody wrote.
