HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

In 2006, Virginians voted to ban same-sex marriage by adding an amendment to their state constitution. On Friday, a federal judge in struck down the law. America's come a long way in eight years, writes Jamelle Bouie.

NO HARD FEELINGS

It looks like Putin holds no hard feelings about Obama's snub. In a move that is seen as a clear effort to diffuse political tensions, Russian President Vladimir Putin made a surprise visit to USA House. His visit was low-key and last-minute, but Putin's officials still insisted on tasting the drinks and brownies before he arrived.

Doogie Howser

Vivek Murthy, 36, has been nominated to be the next surgeon general. Murthy has Ivy League degrees and years spent in a hospital, Dr. Soumitra R. Eachempati writes, but has never served as a traditional physician. Murthy is a "hospitalist" who doesn't see his own patients, deal with insurance companies, or medical emergencies. Murthy has one bit of key experience though: He campaigned hard for Obama in 2008. Is this really the person to be America's top doc?

NOT SURPRISED

Well, if you thought you couldn't hear worse things about the Miami Dolphins' Richie Incognito, you would be wrong. An independent investigation into his behavior after teammate Jonathan Martin left the team due to racial and emotional harassment reveals just how disgusting Incognito's behavior was. In addition to joking about having sex with Martin's sister without a condom, Incognito and another teammate talked about shooting black people and heavily taunted another Dolphin as a "faggot."

SHOCKING

A United Nations commission of inquiry has found evidence of crimes against humanity committed in North Korea, including "extermination" of populations by starvation. The Associated Press broke the story Friday. The commission's report will be released Monday and recommends its findings be referred to the International Criminal Court. There's a slim chance of that happening though, because the U.N. Security Council would have to approve such a move, and China holds a veto.
