The Pentagon identified the shooter as Army Specialist Ivan Lopez, who it said was examined by a psychiatrist last month and was found to show no violent or suicidal tendencies. Boehner: No Guns for Mentally Ill John Boehner said Thursday following the Fort Hood shooting that the mentally ill should not own guns. "There's no question that those with mental-health issues should be prevented from owning weapons or being able to purchase weapons," Boehner said at an event on Capitol Hill. The Army said a psychiatrist evaluated Specialist Ivan Lopez prior to his killing of three people and himself, finding no violent or suicidal tendencies. "This issue we need to continue to look at, to find a way to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them," Boehner said.
