New type of defibrillator for patients at risk for sudden cardiac death Posted: 28 Apr 2014 12:48 PM PDT A new device called a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (S-ICD) prevents sudden cardiac death with an electric shock. A conductor wire is implanted just under the skin, rather than going into the heart.
