Obama Calls Syria Criticism 'Horsesh*t' President Obama fumed at lawmakers who suggested his policy in Syria was amiss and slammed their criticism as "horseshit." Josh Rogin reports that in a private meeting with bipartisan congressional leaders, some legislators advised the president that he should arm Syrian rebels—just as Hillary Clinton recently said. Cops Fire Tear Gas at Ferguson Protests Police in Ferguson, Missouri, fired tear gas and rubber bullets at crowds of protesters late Monday, marking a second night of clashes in response to the fatal shooting of an unarmed teenager. At around 8 p.m. local time, protesters gathered near the QuikTrip convenience store in Ferguson that was looted and burned Sunday night following the death of Michael Brown, an 18-year-old who was shot and killed by a police officer over the weekend. Brown was unarmed and reportedly had his hands up at the time of the shooting. Police in riot gear with the support of SWAT vehicles used tear gas and "beanbag rounds" after protesters reportedly threw rocks at police, according to Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson. Read it at The Daily Beast GOING VIRAL 4. First European Dies of Ebola in Spain After ravaging West Africa, the Ebola virus has claimed its first European casualty. Authorities announced the death of Miguel Pajares, a 75-year-old Spanish priest, on Tuesday. Pajares had been stationed as a missionary in Liberia, but he was airlifted to Madrid on Aug. 7 after showing symptoms of the deadly disease. Spanish officials said Monday that they had obtained Zmapp, the controversial experimental Ebola drug treatment, for Pajares, but have not said whether he was ultimately treated with it. Pajares is the first European to die of Ebola during the recent outbreak that has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia. Ukraine Blocks Russian Aid Convoy A Ukrainian security spokesman said Tuesday that a Russian convoy bringing humanitarian aid wouldn't be allowed to cross the border into Ukraine. French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius warned Tuesday that the 280 Russian trucks meant to provide aid could actually be a guise for Putin's long-term military goals. "We must be extremely careful because this could be a cover for the Russians to install themselves near Lugansk and Donetsk," he told France Info radio. "This [convoy] is only possible, only justifiable, if the Red Cross authorizes it." Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, had said "it has all been agreed with Ukraine." However, a government source in Kiev told Reuters "There is no agreement from the Ukrainian side for Russian vehicles to enter Ukrainian territory.
