Cheat Sheet - Are American Troops Already Fighting on the Front Lines in Iraq?

Read This, Skip That ....

September 02, 2014
BOOTS ON THE GROUND
Although the United States has been fighting ISIS in Iraq with airstrikes, the Pentagon has flat-out denied that soldiers are engaged in combat. However, Kurdish officials are telling Ford Sypher a different story. According to them, U.S. special-operations forces were seen on the ground next to German commandos.
STANDING UP
As one of the several female celebrities whose nude photos were hacked and leaked over the weekend, Jennifer Lawrence is rightfully getting the authorities involved. Samantha Allen writes the actress doesn't need to laugh this off or "own" it. Just because she's America's Sweetheart doesn't mean she doesn't deserve justice.
IT GETS WORSE

The St. Louis Rams cut Michael Sam from the team's 10-man practice squad on Monday. It follows Sam being cut from the Rams' 53-man roster on Saturday. Combined, it is a major blow to Sam's potential to play in the NFL and become the league's first openly gay player. Sam did clear waivers Sunday and is free to play for any team in the NFL. Sam was picked in the seventh round of the NFL draft. Of the 41 picks in this round, 22 made the 53-man rosters of their teams and four made practice squads. Rams Coach Jeff Fisher had hinted prior to the cut that Sam, a defensive end, would not make the practice squad. "If you're familiar with our roster right now, we've got five linebackers, for example; we need linebackers on the practice squad," he said.

GOING BALLISTIC
As the West rallies around Ukraine, Vladimir Putin raised the specter of the scariest thing on earth: nuclear war. "I want to remind you that Russia is one of the most powerful nuclear nations," Putin warned. Gordon Chang writes Putin may be ratcheting up geopolitical tensions to a level he may soon regret.
F--- YOU

CeeLo Green tweeted a series of offensive and nonsensical views about rape and sexual consent over the weekend. "If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously," The Voice coach tweeted, adding "People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!" Green's skewed and inaccurate definition of rape did not come from out of the blue. On Friday, he was sentenced to three years of probation and 45 days of community service on drug-possession charges linked to a 2012 dinner. At that same dinner, he also reportedly gave a woman ecstasy and had sex with her, which many said should have prompted rape charges. Amid the backlash, Green tweeted on Monday: "I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context. I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this." In what is probably his (or his lawyer's) smartest move in the past couple of days, Green has shut down his Twitter account.
