STRANGER THAN FICTION
The fall of polo club owner John Goodman is bizarre even by Florida standards. Four years and two trials after he drove his $200,000 Bentley through a stop sign and knocked a car into a canal, Goodman was found guilty of manslaughter. Jacqui Goddard reports on the billionaire who lost it all—but not before adopting his 44-year-old girlfriend.
LOST AND FOUND

New research into a fragment of an aluminum aircraft found in 1991 has identified it with a high degree of certainty as a piece of Amelia Earhart's lost aircraft. It was found on the remote uninhabited atoll Nikumaroro in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. Research from the International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery claims the piece of metal is a patch that was installed on her plane during an eight-day stay in Miami, during her 1937 record attempt to fly around the world at the Equator. "The Miami patch was an expedient field repair," said Ric Gillespie, executive director of TIGHAR. "Its complex fingerprint of dimensions, proportions, materials, and rivet patterns was as unique to Earhart's Electra as a fingerprint is to an individual."

BAMBOOZLED
A Republican project is targeting 7 million people for purging from voter rolls across 27 states, including 1 in 7 registered African-American voters. Al Jazeera America reported the findings of a six-month-long investigation into the Interstate Crosscheck program Wednesday. The Crosscheck list claims these millions of people have voted in two or more states in the same election (a felony). However, the list is sloppy: It mismatches or ignores middle names and suffixes like Jr. and Sr. What's worse, birthdays and Social Security mismatches are commonly ignored. In three states that provided lists, 1 in 7 blacks and 1 in 8 Hispanics are under suspicion of voting twice. The purges have already begun: 41,000 were removed from Virginia's voter rolls. "It's Jim Crow all over again," said Rev. Joseph Lowery, who cofounded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Martin Luther King Jr.
TARNISHED TIFFANY NETWORK
Veteran journalist Sharyl Attkisson has gotten really angry at CBS News, her former employer, Lloyd Grove reports. Her new memoir cast the House of Murrow and Cronkite as a den of sycophants swooning over the Obama administration. In turn, CBS has been quick to smear its former ace investigative reporter as a right-wing nut. What are they afraid of?
NO CHANCES

A recommendation by military leaders to quarantine all U.S. troops returning from West Africa was approved Wednesday by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. Those returning from the missions to combat the spread of the Ebola virus will be kept in supervised isolation for 21 days. The move is stronger than those recommended for civilians by the administration. The recommendation was made to Hagel by Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. There are more than 1,000 U.S. troops in Liberia and Senegal providing support for those working to combat the disease.
