Cheat Sheet - The Only Thing Worse Than Ebola Is Being Pregnant With Ebola

Read This, Skip That ....

October 02, 2014
GRIM
America's Ebola patient zero, Thomas Eric Duncan, was likely infected while trying to help a pregnant woman in Liberia. Kent Sepkowitz and Abby Haglage report Ebola kills 96 percent of pregnant women as it ravages public health systems meant to bring children safely into the world.
IT'S REAL
Critics on the right and left have questioned whether the White House invented the threat from the Khorasan Group in Syria that the U.S. bombed last month. Eli Lake reports that all the way back in June, plans to attack the shadowy network of al Qaeda veterans were drawn up by the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command. At the time, the U.S. military and intelligence community—not the White House—had concluded the network was planning to attack airliners flying to the U.S.
STREAMING PACT

Netflix has signed Adam Sandler to star in and produce four movies to be available exclusively on the Internet video-streaming company worldwide. The deal comes days after Netflix shook up the Hollywood moviemaking culture by announcing an agreement with The Weinstein Company to produce a sequel to the 2000 martial-arts hit Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to premiere on Netflix and also in IMAX theaters. The first movie under the agreement with Sandler could arrive as soon as 2015. Netflix will work with Sandler's Happy Madison production company to develop the four films—presumably comedies. The deal does not affect Sandler's current studio film commitments. The Saturday Night Live alum's films have grossed $3.9 billion worldwide.

GREEDY
Bank of America may come in second to JPMorgan Chase in terms of largest U.S. bank, but there exists a market it has locked down, literally. Daniel Wagner at The Center for Public Integrity reports how Bank of America is reaping millions off its sole control over money transfers and e-messaging for all 214,365 inmates in the federal prison system.
I'M WARNING YOU

Police spokesman Steve Hui warned Hong Kong's demonstrators there would be serious consequences if pro-democracy protesters either charged or surrounded official buildings, declaring such actions illegal. At the same time, the Chinese government in Beijing has stepped up its rhetoric, claiming that, "Handling affairs without following laws, Hong Kong society will be in chaos." It has also suspended tour group visits from mainland China to Hong Kong, and issued a front-page declaration in its paper that it "fully trusts Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying and is very satisfied with his work."
