Cheat Sheet - Sex, Drugs, and Kate Moss: Secrets of a Supermodel

Read This, Skip That ....

October 09, 2014
SCANDAL
She embodied heroin chic, and her vodka-chugging prowess earned her the nickname "The Tank." But even after she was busted snorting cocaine in a recording studio, most of Kate Moss's wild life remained the stuff or urban legend rather than documented fact—until now. Tom Sykes on the new book that reveals the supermodel's ravenous excesses.
TERRIFIED

While speaking before a World Bank forum on the Ebola crisis, CDC Director Thomas Frieden declared that the virus is the worst since AIDS. "I would say that in the 30 years I've been working in public health, the only thing like this has been AIDS." He also argued that because of its potential, the world needs to work fast to stop it. So far, the outbreak has killed more than 3,860 people, including 200 health workers. Meanwhile, officials say the condition of the Spanish nurse who contracted Ebola from a patient has deteriorated. The two doctors who treated her have been admitted for observation, bringing the total number of people under quarantine at the Madrid hospital to six.

AL-LIBY'S TALE
Swarmed, Tasered, trundled into a vehicle blindfolded—and that was just the beginning for alleged al Qaeda member Abu Anas al-Liby. Now he's complaining about his treatment. This from a guy who fled arrest in England and left behind a computer containing an "Al Qaeda Manual," which extols "the dialogue of bullets, the ideals of assassination, bombing and destruction" and says that a jihadi's duties include kidnapping and murdering "enemy personnel as well as foreign tourists." Poor little jihadi, says Michael Daly.
MONSTER

Juan Demetrius McFarland, the now-former pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, recently admitted from the pulpit that he has AIDS and has slept with church members. He did not reveal to those women that he was infected. McFarland said he contracted HIV in 2003, and in 2008 discovered it had progressed to AIDS. He had been pastor for 23 years. "He concealed from the church that he had knowingly engaged in adultery in the church building with female members of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church while knowingly having AIDS," said church deacon Nathan Williams Jr. McFarland has also admitted to drug use and mishandling church funds.
