SILENCE SPEAKS VOLUMES
By turning down petitions asking for a decision on same-sex marriage, the Supreme Court on Monday added Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin to the number of states where gay marriage is legal. While the court is usually viewed as politically conservative, this time, says Jay Michaelson, the court showed its judicial conservatism.
GROUNDED

Federal officials said Monday that they arrested Mohammed Hamza Khan at O'Hare International Airport over the weekend because he was allegedly trying to go abroad to support terrorism and ISIS. Khan is accused of planning to meet his contact with the group in Istanbul, and then get taken to either Iraq or Syria. According to agents, Khan admitted to them that he thought his job there would be "some type of public service, a police force, humanitarian work, or a combat role."

MUST-SEE TV
Committed liberals Ben Affleck and Bill Maher got into it on Real Time about whether liberals can or should criticize Islam. Michael Tomasky writes it got to the heart of a major flaw with contemporary Western liberalism: an unwillingness to criticize the failures of other cultures.
IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN

Twin Peaks is coming back to television. Creators David Lynch and Mark Frost confirmed Monday via Twitter that they're writing nine new episodes that will air on Showtime in 2016. Sources told Variety that the show will not be a remake, but rather a revival that reflects the passage of time and picks up on storylines from the show's final season that aired in 1991. It will air to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the show's ABC demise. Will we see The Giant, The Man From Another Place, the Log Lady, and Special Agent Dale Cooper again? No word on casting yet.

HOMEROOM
For the first time ever, an American university is offering a dedicated online course on abortion. In this case, it is the University of California, San Francisco, using the online course platform Coursera. The class will focus on abortion care during and after the first trimester, as well as abortion access issues worldwide. A course like this matters more now than ever, says Samantha Allen.
