Cheat Sheet - The Real Election Winner: Weed

Read This, Skip That ....

November 05, 2014
HIGH TIMES
Voters in three states voted to legalize weed last night, but the biggest pot victory belongs to Washington, D.C. Abby Haglage reports residents of the nation's capital will be able to grow, smoke, or give away weed for free—anything as long as they don't sell it. Are stoned congressmen next?
MIXED MESSAGES

Three of the states where the uninsured rate dropped dramatically thanks to President Obama's signature health-care law voted to elect Republican U.S. Senate candidates—just as Michael Tomasky points out today. In Arkansas, Kentucky, and West Virginia, counties that saw the largest gains in insurance coverage were the strongest supporters of Republican candidates, whose party wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act. In addition, voters gave the Arkansas legislature a Republican supermajority and elected a Republican governor who could affect the state's Medicaid expansion, which insured 200,000 people.

MARTYR COMPLEX
Joran Van der Sloot, a convicted murderer and the last man to see Natalee Holloway alive, claimed he was shanked in Peru's notoriously dangerous Challapaca prison. But the Van der Sloot's story doesn't hold up, reports Andrea Zarate and Barbie Latza Nadeau. It looks like he's faking it to make himself into a martyr.
GIRL, INTERRUPTED

Lena Dunham said Wednesday she is too sick to continue her book tour, which comes on the heels of controversy about her writing that she kissed and touched her younger sister in her new memoir, Not That Kind of Girl. Random House said Dunham's stops in Europe scheduled for this week will take place next month. "Details to come," Dunham said in a statement. On Tuesday, she defended herself and said her sister gave her permission to publish passages in the book. Dunham also apologized for "comic use of the term 'sexual predator.'"

RATINGS BUMP
Pippa Middleton is reportedly inking a deal to be a correspondent for NBC's Today show. While NBC may be pleased with beating out ABC for the royal sis, Buckingham Palace is rumored to be less than thrilled with Pippa's new gig, report Lloyd Grove and Tom Sykes. But the sister-in-law to the future king will not quietly bow down.
