Survives Assassination Attempt Well, that was close. Syria's prime minister narrowly escaped an assassination attempt after a car bomb was detonated in a pricey Damascus neighborhood. State media say that the bomb, which went off by Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi's convoy, killed a bodyguard. The blast also knocked the windows out of a bus parked nearby. The attack happened in Mezze, a popular spot in the capital for senior officials. The student, who has not been identified, has been taken to the hospital. The county sheriff's office says there is no longer a threat. A witness near the school said there were "lots of police cars and a police officer with a large gun in the street." One cruiser crashed into a pole while responding to the scene. A year after joining the New York Jets—and not really getting any playing time—Tim Tebow is free. The Jets released the quarterback Monday morning.
